What’s the difference between chassis(es) and studs? (for the upper part of soccer cleats)?
I’m buying Adidas F50.9 TUNIT, and they require studs, or chassis.
Do i need both? What’s the difference between them, performance and price wise.
Yes, you need both of them because they are completely different things. Take a look at this picture as I explain it (just look at the diagram to the right):

The top part is the upper. The second layer is the sockliner. If you’ve ever used Dr. Scholl’s it’s kind of like that, but it’s completely necessary. The third layer is the chassis you were talking about. This and the fourth layer, the studs, go together to finish off the boot. You put the chassis inside the upper (UNDER the sockliner) and you screw in the studs through the holes in the bottom of the upper into the chassis.
The performance is completely separate because they both do different things. The prices, however, are important. The chassis is usually about $85, whereas the studs are usually about $15 a set I think.
Hope I could help!
